Betsy Learner, L.Ac.

Acupuncturist located in Portsmouth, NH

I received my undergraduate degree from Colby College, and also received a Master  of Acupuncture (M.Ac.) from the New England School of Acupuncture. I am licensed and board-certified to practice acupuncture by the NH Board of Medicine and I am a Diplomate of the NCCAOM, the national accrediting association.

My acupuncture style draws both from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and from the Japanese style of Meridian Therapy. My training in these different styles allows me to design comfortable effective treatments to suit the individual needs of each patient.

People often ask if I always had an interest in acupuncture. I actually didn’t have any awareness of acupuncture or Chinese Medicine until I was out of college and working in a corporate firm. I knew I wasn’t in the right spot but was still searching for something that felt meaningful to me. A friend told me about a lecture on the principles of Chinese Medicine. I went just to check it out and discovered over time that this was what I wanted to pursue. In essence, I was intrigued by this study that would require me to use my mind, my body, and my spirit all in concert. It didn’t take long before Adam and I discovered that we shared this interest and wanted to pursue it together.

It is an honor to work with patients through their challenges and joys. Whether coming in for a new injury, a chronic condition, or wanting to promote wellbeing, patient’s share their stories with me and together we try to figure out what pieces of the story fit together and what pieces need to be rebalanced. I am humbled and inspired by these experiences that patients share and as much as I may help patients, I also learn and benefit from their experiences.

I am amazed by the wisdom of this ancient healing method and also by the body’s innate ability to heal. I also am forever fascinated by all there is to learn about health and wellness. It will be a wonderful lifelong study.

My other lifelong study will be my 3 children. We have one boy and two girls who also teach me a lot! My personal interests include family time, music, meditation, and the outdoors.
