Phsyio Imaging & Digital Thermography
Family Acupuncture & Herbs along with its sister company Physio Imaging is pleased to announce that we have added a new service, Digital Thermography or DITI. It is very useful for both diagnosis and assessment of prognosis, as well as therapy follow up and rehabilitation monitoring, within clinical fields that include: rheumatology, neurology, physiotherapy, sports medicine, oncology, pediatrics, orthopedics, breast health, and many others.
Digital Thermography, DITI is a noninvasive diagnostic technique that allows the examiner to visualize and quantify changes in skin surface temperature. An infrared scanning device is used to convert infrared radiation emitted from the skin surface into electrical impulses that are visualized in color on a monitor. This visual image graphically maps the body temperature and is referred to as a thermogram. The spectrum of color indicates an increase or decrease in the amount of infrared radiation being emitted from the body surface. Since there is a high degree of thermal symmetry in the normal body, subtle abnormal temperature asymmetry’s can be easily identified.
Unlike most diagnostic modalities DITI is non invasive. It is a very sensitive and reliable means of graphically mapping and displaying skin surface temperature. With DITI you can diagnosis, evaluate, monitor and document a large number of injuries and conditions, including soft tissue injuries and sensory/autonomic nerve fiber dysfunction. DITI can also be used to aid in the discovery of targeting your pain and establishing a treatment plan in conjunction with acupuncture.
One of its many uses and benefits is in early detection of breast health. Thermography is a 15 minute non invasive test of physiology. It is a valuable procedure for alerting your doctor to changes that can indicate early stage breast disease.
Breast thermography offers the opportunity of earlier detection of breast disease than has been possible through breast self examination, doctor examination or mammography alone. Thermography can detect the subtle physiologic changes that accompany breast pathology, whether it is cancer, fibrocystic disease, an infection or a vascular disease. Your doctors can then plan accordingly and lay out a careful program to further diagnose and /or MONITOR you during and after any treatment
All women can benefit from breast thermography screening. However, it is especially appropriate for younger women (30 - 50) whose denser breast tissue makes it more difficult for mammography to be effective. Also for women of all ages who, for many reasons, are unable to undergo routine mammography. This test can provide a 'clinical marker' to the doctor or mammographer that a specific area of the breast needs particularly close examination.
